As a leader in the credit industry Compuscan constantly seeks to further their knowledge and understanding of the evolving credit landscape by involving themselves in industry related events. Not only do these serve as a platform to interact with current and prospective clients and industry role-players, but they also allow us to remain up-to-date with current events and industry developments so that we can best understand the needs of the industry and our existing clients. One such opportunity is the 6th African Microfinance Conference held at the International Convention Centre in Durban from 12-15 August 2013. The event, which welcomed 250 participants in 2003, saw nearly 600 delegates in attendance at its last event in 2011 and this year is expected to be no different. With worldwide supporters, the conference seeks to impact on improving financial inclusion on the continent. This year the theme of the conference is focused on “Financial Inclusion: From Policy to Practice” and asks the question “What practical steps need to be taken to expand financial inclusion?”
With access to and use of formal financial services remaining a formidable challenge for the development of more than 80% of people living in Africa – the importance of this conference cannot be underestimated.
At Compuscan we recognise the plight of these individuals and understand that credit, and in particular microfinance, is a critical anti-poverty tool and wise-investment in human capital. Consequently, Compuscan earnestly assumes the pivotal function of a credit bureau within the credit industry to sustain a viable credit market and promote socio-economic growth.
It is for this reason that we are proud to be a part of the 6th African Microfinance Conference and to be exhibiting at an event which aligns itself with our beliefs and values.
Furthermore, Compuscan will also be attending the MFSA (Microfinance South Africa) annual general meeting which will also be taking place at the International Convention Centre in Durban from 12–13 August.
